Teresa Martinez Moore, Producer

Producing Make Up Sex allowed me the opportunity to weave together connections and networks of people in a creative way over a really short period of time. The project came together over the course of one phone call and several text messages over the course of 24 hours, and then once we locked in the production day, we had approximately one week to set everything and everyone up before filming began. We excelled on our short pre-production timeline because of the professional talent signing on immediately to be part of the project, Sarah Kopp and Carson Fox Harvey, and having the amazing film crew of Film in a Bag Productions at the ready. There are very few projects that have had such a quick turnaround time and such quality results that I’ve been a part of!

Nick Cartwright, Director of Photography

When I was brought on as the director of photography for this film, it was important for me to craft a visual motif around closeness.  At the core of this film is this couple’s anxious first steps into uncharted territory in their relationship. In moments of connection or whenever they make each other feel seen and appreciated, they are pulled closer in the frame and the focal lengths get longer, serving to compress the space between the characters. At its peak we use the Petzval Lomography 85mm to create a sense of romantic bliss and hope that this experiment will work out for the couple. I really love the irony that while they’re staging a fight with one another we feel the closeness between them build.  In contrast, when the two are truly, misaligned, at odds, or feeling anxious and vulnerable, we moved to more separated compositions, wider lenses, single shots and a more handheld feel.

Daniel Mashburn, Director, Co-Writer

I chose to direct this film because I believed in the base idea of the script that co-writer and lead actress, Sarah Kopp. While the story arc remains similar to the 1st draft of the script I came in with some rewrites and visual style suggestions that pushed the piece to being a true Romantic Dramedy that goes from a sweet, slow burn comedy to a rapid fire rollercoaster of emotions and drama. While watching this film, I want the viewer to experience the full spectrum of emotions of the piece through thoughtful on screen considerations we incorporated with props, lens choices and unique visual character POVs mixed with purposeful audio design and music we had developed to tie it all together the whole way through.
